Chief Consultant
Mr. Nizam U Ahmed has extensive experience in a variety of domains in multiple national and international organizations.
He started his career as an entrepreneur in the IT industry where clients used to outsource IT operations to his company. His largest client then was Alcatel Lucent Bangladesh.
He closed this venture to pursue an MBA at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) in 2005.
After returning home he joined the North South University (NSU) School of Business as a faculty to teach business students.
Later, Mr. Nizam served at Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the premier bourse of Bangladesh, for around 9 years. During this time he served as Head of Listing for around 6 years and got 84 companies listed while de-listings many others. He, later, formed a Product and Market Development Department there and took responsibility to set it up himself. He left the DSE as the Head of the Market Development Division.
During his illustrious career at the DSE he
a) implemented a project for the current trading system and front end (OMS) in record time and made his mark in the Information Technology domain once again; This system is still in use with 99.99% or above uptimes year after year and is used by around 3,000 professional traders, 70,000 mobile users, among others, from the entire broking community of the DSE;
b) played a major role in demutualization of the DSE, drafting new regulations, formulating a 7-year business plan for the DSE among other activities during the demutualization process;
c) launched new Indices in collaboration with the S&P;
d) initiated works on Bulletin Board (Called ATB), ETFs, Sukuks, Data Sales, providing liquidity for Government Securities etc.
e) gave lectures on capital market and regulatory compliance at Institute of Cost and Management Accounting of Bangladesh (ICMAB), Institute of Business Administration (IBA) and various other universities.
Mr. Nizam has been known to be the solution maker in the capital market of Bangladesh.
He also worked as a consultant for BASIS for a year in between.
Later, he joined Flextrade, a US-based multi-national Fin-Tech company in their Singapore Office as Senior Project Manager and worked through June 2020. Within 9 months from the joining he assisted the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) in changing their trading front end (OMS). That system is being used by 75% of all professional traders, around 3,000 mobile users, among others, from 99 brokers.
Heimdallr & Co is his brain-child. In Norse mythology, Heimdallr is attested as possessing foreknowledge, keen eyesight and hearing, and watch-power for invaders. Heimdallr & Co intends to serve companies with a foresight of the mythical character Heimdallr and assist them in navigating through today's tough business world.
During the last two years he has implemented Independent OMS for City Brokerage Ltd, one of the top brokers in Bangladesh and working for implementation of two more. He also worked as National Consultant for a World Bank project "CAPITAL MARKET SYSTEMS INTEROPERABILITY STANDARDS DEVELOPMENT" where frameworks for interoperability between market stakeholders were assessed and necessary improvements were suggested. Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission is in the process of implementing the recommendations.
He is currently also working on a homegrown OMS project.
